The amplifier that originally came with your car has about 5 watts per channel. If you want originality go for it. If you want power, most of the radios on the market have at least 35 watts X 4 these days in the head unit making the original amplifier obsolete.

What you are all talking about is the COUNTER for the O 2 sensor warning light which turns on every 60,000 miles to tell you that you might need a O2 sensor .....it clicks as you drive asuming it is plugged in has nothing to do with the radio !!! Later model 928s do /did mount an amplifier under the carpeted cover NOT early cars . YMMV

OhmyGod!! Jim. That's what that noise is? Now I can stop trying to figure out where the F*** that noise is coming from. Thank you, thank you. Does it ever need to be replaced? And how much are they?
Ruf. The Borla with the cat by-pass rocks. Once the car is warmed up and at idle there is this noise that actually starts to rattle things near by. Like my neighbors house windows. And it is very acceptable until you get above 3500 and then shift. I will never go back to the cats. And the power increase is noticable. The rear slips out a lot sooner without the cats on.

All it does it count pulses from the speedo pickup. At a certain mileage it turns on the OXS light.
Take it, and the passenger side cover, out (there's carpet under it) and save the weight.

So here's my next question. Neither my speedo or my odometer are functioning at the moment. I have cleaned the contacts in the spare tire compartment. So can I narrow the problem down to a bad circut board? Does the info for that COUNTER come from the back to the front of the car or from the front i.e. (the dash) to the COUNTER and then somewhere else. Or does the COUNTER simply send info from the O2 to the dash?

Per the 82 wiring diagram, the speedo wire is BRown/REd and goes to the fuse/relay panel then splits to the cruise control, speedo, and counter.
The OXS counter has no connection to the oxygen sensor, only the speedo sensor and the OXS light.
If you have access to the manual, it's on page 97-129.

Thank you Porken. I'm going to go with the assumption that the circut board is the most likely cause of the odometer and spedo not functioning.

Chucker. Mine is a 81, and has both. The o2 unit which trips the light on your dash at 30k (according to the shop manual), and I've also got the original BlauP amp in there. (but, that is not being used as the PO replaced the head unit)

Mystery Part
Anyone know what this 928 part is?
I have a collection of 928s throughout several years and do not know which car its from.
If I had to guess its from a 1989 S4 or 1991 GT
About 3 to 4 inches long
its about 3 inches long.
I save/bag and typically label any parts i remove and found this unlabeled.
