Transducer on the top runs the fans at any of three speeds, depending on the pressure it sees(predictably related to pressure...) in the system. It only connects to the fans-andn-flaps controller, as you state. Switch on the bottom protects the compressor from low pressure, and on later GTS cars with R-134a from the factory, it also protects from high pressure by cutting current to the compressor clutch.

You still have the fans-and-flaps controller under the cover to the right of the passenger seat. The part that was removed from your car is the flap actuator under the hood. Take a look under that pass side cover and veridy that the fan controller is still there. Without it, there would be no fan operation at all since it delivers the speed commands to the finned power module under the hood and on to the fans themselves.
