Current draw on radiator fans
I'm replacing my belt driven fan with the S4 electric fans. Anybody have an idea how much current both fans will draw? Or, what is the fuse rating on the power for the fan circuit? Thanks in advance!

I can't answer your questions, but I did the same thing last summer, and my '82 runs cool all the time. One of the best investments I've made in my shark.

I'm interested in doing this also...
1 - Where did you guys get the fans?
2 - How much?
3 - Is it an easy 'bolt-on' procudure?
4 - Where did you tie in the electricals?

Thanks for the info Wally. Looks like I better get some garden hose diameter wire for each of these fans. I bought the fans and the shroud off e-bay. I've seen them for sale anywhere between $100 to $200. I'm thinking about buying one (or 2) of these Thermal switches . I'm planning on tapping into the (+) jumper terminal under the front hood for power. When I finish (maybe next month) I'll post some pic's. I'm hoping my alternator will supply enough current for these puppies. Thanks again!

The trimline fans (http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/trimline.htm)use less than 10 amps. You can use a 12" and a 10" side by side for less than 20 amps total.
The 928 is a very well engineered car and you should use a well engineered fan controller as the original designers did.
A switch will work, but not too well, especially at 170 deg.
Flex-a-lite has just come out with a very nice controller which has an adjustable set point. When the set point is reached, the fans come on at 60% (very quiet, cant hear them). As the temperature rises beyond the set point the fans speed up until they reach the 100% speed. It also has aftercooling for when the car is shut down, the fans run for 30 seconds to cool the engine comartment. My wiring harness told me that it likes this feature. All your other rubber components will agree. There is also an input for A/C which will tell the fans to come on if the A/C is running. It will also run both fans. There are other features, too, such as a manual override.
The other option is to use the controller off of an S4. It's a very nice unit.
Good fan controllers are hard to find. The flex-a-lite just came out in february. Before that, I couldn't find a decent aftermarket one and started designing my own. Now it seems I won't have to.
