Post Removing Alarm & Amp

My alarm went off the last 2 times I shut off the car---for no apparant reason--never did it before. I got it to shut off by locking the driver's door. Is there an easier way to get it to quit? I'm thinking about removing it from the car--what should I watch out for in removing it? I'm also thinking about removing the AMP, since I have upgraded the stereo. Any advice? Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom

I have been having a problem with the immobilisor in my 964, but the part is from a 928 and is under the passenger seat next to the amp. Maybe you can help me if you look at my post Immobilisor wiring just below this one.

Thanks very much.

My guess is that the locking mechanism is not as tight as it should be. If there is any slop, the key may not turn as far as it should to turn off the alarm.

Tighten the lock by gaining access through the rubber cover on the inside jam of the door. There is a funny looking screw that if tightened will hold the lock more firmly in place. YMMV.

Hi Ed: Locking the car would turn it off, but I don't know why it went off in the first place--any thoughts? Is locking the door the 'right' way to shut it off, or is there another? It goes off when I am in the car after I shut it off. Thanks, Tom

When you turned the key to open the door, it probably did not turn the tumbler far enough to disengage the alarm. YMMV.

Ok, are you saying that when I originally unlocked the car before I drove to work it might not have disengaged?

It went off after I had driven for 45 minutes
& I shut off the key & opened the door to get out. Thanks, Tom

I unlocked the car to get in, drove to work & the alarm went off when I arrived at work & shut off the car & got out. If I understand Ed, it is possible to unlock the car without disengaging the alarm. In any case, it shuts off when I lock the car---I have been careful to twist the key as far as possble when I unlock the door to make sure I disengage the alarm, and I haven't had a problem.
