Post Air Flow Meter Cleaning

Just removed Air Flow Meter of my 1986 928 S 5-speed for the first time. Looking for vacuum leaks in the area and plan to gently clean electric contacts with eraser.

My question pertains to cleaning the inside wires (I believe they are called 'hot wires')of the Air Flow Meter unit. They look really fragile. Can I clean them with alcohol on a cotton q-tip? Or, should I just leave them be?

Thanks in advance for your help!
