putting recirc box back in - body caulk?
Putting the recirc box back in, and I'm replacing the black stuff that was there. I had remembered Stan mentioning to get 3m body caulk, but as usually didn't do any legwork before heading to the auto store, so couldn't remember that it was a 3m product. Which they didn't have, so I got some bondo body sealant. Comes in a caulk tube and is gray, probably exactly the stuff on body seams. Am I going to be in a world of hurt if I try this stuff? I think it's just about exactly the same stuff as the 3m product, but in a tube rather than a strip.

You can buy rolls of a multiple strips at the hardware store. It's like a ribbon that you can seperate by hand and lay in there instead of the liquid out of the tube that will run all over the place. You'll find it in the window sealing section. You can double it up to get the desired height and width it will compress easy when you reset the bold.

I would take thei time to find the right sealant the stuff in the tube thats liquiod is not good to use, and I hope that it isnt the setting seam sealer, you will never get the box out in one piece when the vacuum diaphram breaks . #m is usually sold at most body sho supply houses or they can get it you can also use the grey strip caulk but the 3M stuff is the best and wont dry out like the grey stuff will over 20 years

After not doing a very good job of sealing it the first time, I had to re-install the recirc box. I guess the trick is to get the body caulk to fill all the space side-to-side, and to pretty much cover the bolt holes. Leak free, and I poured a huge glass of water right down in there. The body caulk in the tube is actually really easy to use, takes about 5 minutes to put it on, let it skin over for about 20 minutes, and stick it in. Brian, what I used is definitely what was there before, except the stuff I used is gray. And the tube is cheaper than the 3m stuff, and I was able to get it at the local auto shop.
