Default Circuit repair quiz, before you hack at it!

The 928 is an electrical repairmans dream. Miles of wires, three circuits where one would do, obscure wiring references, etc. Before you try to 'DIY', which I am all in favor of BTW. Take this short quiz to see if, well, maybe you should send it to me or Alan.

1. My solder equipment has a 'trigger' and a light on it.

2. The house lights dim when I crank up my soldering system.

3. My solder resembles welding rod.

4. I like to suck old solder, or 'dip my wick' before making a board repair.

5. I always go with 28 gauge for repair cause it's carries more current than wimpy 22 gauge.

6. The 15 bus goes through Piscattaway, and ends in N Joyzee.

7. Strip back 1 inch on each end, then twist CCW 5 times, cover with half roll of black electrical tape is a suitable repair for the Hall sensor, or 'green' ignition wire.

8. Danger! Lethal! 25000 Mhos!

9. A 'ground loop' is very good, shows that all grounds are working.

10. I use a pencil eraser to __________.

11. When wiring gets hot, it reduces in size and length, this is called 'heat shrink'.

12. LED stands for 'Lossless Electrical Diode'.

13. MOSFET was in the first, and fifth Star Wars movie.

and last:

14. Easy to remember nemonic aid: DC = Domestic Cars, AC =All other Cars. So, Porsches are all 'AC'.

Doc,
Actually the last bit of soldering I did for the car was with a propane torch and a solder stick that looked like a welding rod... It felt a bit 'heavy industrial!'

(big honking ring terminals on 4AWG for battery feeder)

...so I think I failed the quiz...?

last time stranded, I was able to use my emergency road flare to re-solder that pesky wire that kept getting loose and falling down from the fuse panel (green, brown, something like that)- worked well, as the flare allowed me to re-weld everything on the whole panel at once!

My soldering iron runs on 220 and requires argon gas........

Not only that, but it feeds it's own solder into the joint!!

Unsoldering is a bit of a challenge, however!!

OK. I'm guessing you just had a Close Encounter of the Electrical kind with someone else's DIY 928 gremlin repair?

No matter how hard you try, you can never get away from the double "e" in the word geek.

Your's wasn't a problem Ryan, it went together fine. Another Rennlister had a fine time with some 'tools' that took about an hour to resolve. At least it was saved. Your head should be home in a few days.

Anyone else with AC head issues, send em to me or Roger at 928sRUS, we'll fix it up, new relay, all sliders working, and send it back.
