18" Porsche "Sport Design" wheels on a 928?
Hello
I saw some really nice Porsche Sport Design wheels for sale recently...They are 18" wheels....
The offsets are: Front 8x18" ET50 and Rear 10x18" ET65
They are a direct fit for the 993/996 cars....it would be nice if they would fit my '83 928...
Has anyone experimented with 18" wheels? will they fit with spacers???
Thanks...Tony

Without getting into the discussion of ride comfort and the potential bending of wheels due to a very low tire aspect ratio, the offsets you mentioned may not fit properly, particularly the front.
I think your car's OEM offset is about 60mm, so the 50mm may throw the wheel too far outward which may cause the tire and the fender lip to rub or even cut the tire.
The rear 65mm doesn't sound too bad even if you use a spacer. You may need to get longer lug studs if you do use a spacer, but that is not hard or very bad to do. YMMV.

I feel it prudent to mention that Porsche feels very strongly that if your model of Porsche did not come from the factory with the option of 18" wheels. You should not retrofit them. They claim your can bend/break your suspension.
So, in conclusion, 17" is okay, 18" is not.

Tabor, trust me, you won't bend or break your suspension with 18" wheels. The wheels WILL bend or break first. There are LOTS of folks running 18" wheels with no problems at all. You do have to make sure that you have the proper offset for a 928, and of course since you're running a lower profile tire the wheels are more easily bent. Personally I LOVE the look and ride of the 18" wheels on my GT. Had them for a year, and wouldn't trade them for anything. YMMV.
