Fuel pipe question

Fuel pipe question
Hi
I noticed a smell of petrol vapour from the wheel arch.
On looking I notice a pipe coming from the neck of the fuel filler but its not connected to anything, I also noticed on the top of the fuel accumulator a thread with nothing connected.
The car doesnt leak or drip petrol but there is a smell of fumes sometimes.
Can anyone tell me where these should be connected to.
its a 1982 Euro, 4664cc, CIS injection K-Jetronic
Thanks
Paul

Paul,
There is a vent hose from the top of the tank to the sidewall of the inlet - 15 to 20 mm Ø - It can be this.
Mine was leaking when I filled the tank 100%, so maybe better to change it. For doing this you need to remove the tank - Consult the Shop Manual

This hose seems to go from the sidewall of the inlet where it connects to a T piece, one end goes to the top of the tank, the other end is attached to nothing so there is a smell of petrol from it, looks like the pipe from the T piece was going towards the front of the rear arch but I cant find to what. Also does the top of the fuel accumulator in thr front of the rear arch connect to anything at all or is the only connections from the bottom of this unit
Thanks
Paul

Jack,
Does your shark have a charcoal cannister hiding in the wheel arch (front of right rear)? Later models do...check the Nichols site under engine topics: Partially collapsed fuel tank thread. Or Renn. archives -go back for a year or so-. There is also a series of Crushed fuel vent-line threads. Line gets flattened do to mis-route.

OK, from memory, so I hope that this is right.
From the top of the tank, a line runs to a Tee fitting on the base of the inlet neck.
From there, a line runs to the bottom of the compensating tank in the wheelwell.
A line runs from the top of the compensating tank to a roll-over check valve, and from there to the fuel tank vent line that sticks down near the center of the rear bumper cover, ending in a little funnel.
