I drove my Shark to town today, about 30 miles from my farm, and ran smack into a severe thunder storm. I was listening to the radio, and it said I was heading straight for golf ball sized hail. The storm was still a few miles away from where I was when I whipped into a SuperAmerica Station, well under the canopy. The storm hit a few minuites later as I was slowly pumping gas, checking oil, etc. It sounded like the canopy was going to fall when the hail started hitting. I left about 20 minuites later, making sure the storm had passed. The Shark barely missed being pulverized to hell by hail.

To a good body guy that is childsplay. Fenders / hoods are cheap anyway.

We had quarter-sized hail here in Connecticut yesterday. Unbelievable!
Some cars in our office parking lot were dented up, but most were fine. Apparently, Nissan used some heavy-duty aluminum foil (folded over) for the hood of the Altima. :-) And I was considering bringing the new GT to work.

I did this once with my first RX-7 (mint exterior). I sheltered under a large tree at the edge of a parking lot, near a stream, in a public city park.
The tree's foliage was thick enough to slow down the hail (bottlecap sized) so I got no dents. I thought I was sittin' pretty, watching the ice chips fill the parking lot. Then I got nervous about the stream rapidly overflowing it's banks and creeping up to the parking lot, as the storm also dumped several inches of rain in manner of minutes.
Once the hail moved on I drove home (a few blocks) and to my horror there were trees down everywhere! The storm had also unleashed several shear-winds and flattened parts of the city. When the power came back on the news was full of downed trees and a couple broken buildings.
I will never hide uder a tree again in a storm.
Instead I will look for a gas station canopy!

You are right, JEC_31. I was looking for a tree when I thought about the tree it's self doing more damage than the hail. Lots of trees went down in that storm.
