Hoping someone can give me an idea as to whats going on with my tranny....I have a 1987 S4 with an auto tranny and about 121,000 miles.....just recently had transmission fluids replaced....At highway speeds, hit gas to accelerate looking for the downshift for added power and it never comes....regular around town driving seems fine. Does clunk (small) into drive when first starting out...

Hi ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
They UNDERFILLED your autobox....take it back and tell them to check it correctly, the way the manual says....then fill it to the CORRECT level and it will be fine![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
All the best Brett![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

There's a little plastic container on the side of teh gearbox. The funny thing is: the level you see must be between the lines with the engine running! This is because the torque convertor sucks up a pile of oil with the engine on. Maybe they didn't know about this.

It is also worthwhile to check out the kickdown circuit: does the switch click closed when the throttle is pushed against its stop? If so, with key on to 'run', trans in 'D', and motor off, close the switch and listen for the solenoid "click" from the trans .....
