![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi, I'm new to this group (having just bought a '79 928 5-speed yesterday) and figured I'd ask a quick question.
Anybody updated their speakers in their early model 928 (i.e. the ones without the exposed 6" rounds & 1" tweeters)? From what I can see, all four speakers are 4x6's and it sounds like half of them are destroyed. I'm wondering what people here have done sound-wise.
If anyone has any opinions or experience, please reply...
Thanks!
-Aaron
PS. I'm saving the tough things (like replacing all the synchros) for later!

Aaron,
Congrats on the Shark! Don't do what one of my POs did

I now have a big hole in the door where the old speakers were![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The rear speaker install turned out nice though

Yipes! Thanks for the pics. My current thoughts are to retain the 4x6 form factor, just with better speakers. I neglected to mention that I'll be adding a 10" sub into a soon to be created custom spare tire well box. Since that should handle most of my low-mid bass, I'm not too worried about needing 6" mid-woofers.
Any 4x6" recommendations? Or is that the wrong way to go (given that the mounting depth is pretty shallow and the door panel doesn't create the tightest seal...)?

Honestly, I do not like non-round speakers. Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I swear I can hear a diff in the sound of a 6x9 and a 6.5". Maybe it's too much reading about sound waves, etc, but I prefer round....
On that note, there should be a 4x6 plate speaker that has a 3.5" or 4' midrange and .5' tweeter that will fit. Infinity had one in their Kappa line at one time.
I'm keeping my spare, but removing the back seat. There will go 2 or 4 8" CDT Audio MS-80 subwoofers. They only require .25 cuft of airspace each, so 4 will fit nicely. I'll put the amps and crossover there as well. The rear seat can be removed and saved for reinstallation later if I ever sell the car.
Currently sitting in my closet waiting installation are
Nakamichi head unit
4 CDT Audio MS-80 8" subs
Rockford 400.4 amp
Soundstream Exact 4" component set
AudioControl 4XS crossover

That's where I got my subs, they are legit

Here's what the original owner of my '82 had done. The door modification fits the car's styling:
