RED Indiglo
-I recently installed "Intense Red" indigo gauge covers on my '85 S2 5 Speed.
The install was pretty straight forward... I'm not in any sense a trained mechanic, though I put myself through college by pushing a mower and doing maintenance on the mowers and the Ford truck that we used to cart them around. Also, daddy taught me to do basic maintenance on his nasty cars. I do a lot of reading in technical journals, and am interested in auto mechanics in general. I hate to admit it, but I have sat on the toilet with one of the shop manuals on my lap, just for the hell of it...
[probably a "bad-Normy!", but oh well...]
Anyway, I was not impressed at all with Speedhut's instructions. It was str8 from the copy machine, and detailed what looked like a Honda installation. It said nothing about how to power the light panels, and little about routing the wires. I know, it really isn't much of a modification for any decent driveway mechanic like myself, but I would think that they had to have had access to a 928 instrument pod, and based upon the simplicity of modern word processors/availabilty of scanners that this sort of thing would not be an issue.
I mean...928 electrical schematics are NOT national security secrets.
So I pulled the pod off and set the instrument panel on the dining room table. I worked on it for a while, and in made the necessary modifications. First of all, Speedhut made the GREIVOUS ERROR of not telling you what side is up with regard to the faces! "Indiglo" is apparently a thin, inflexible plastic film that has a white tint until it is electrically excited. These are electro luminecent panels, and when you look at them, you cannot tell what side is up.
PUT the WHITE side towards YOU!
So my next email will show you what my '85 S2 looks like....

Normy,
Watch out for sunburn with those reds'.
Apparently, the 928 Electrical schematics are a National Security issue.
All of my past gremlins reappeared last night and them some. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" /> <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" /> <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />
