PCA Tech Session - Paintless Dent Removal
Greetings,
Today, I went to one of the local PCA's (Diablo Region) tech session hosted by California Dent Removal. They specialize in a process called "Paintless Dent Removal" and boy, was I ever impressed.
I went there just to see the process in action. I did have one small nickel sized dent about 3/4's of an inch behind the door jam and above the side moudling on the passenger side. I had figured that since it was so close to the edge of the jam that nothing could be done. But, since I was the first person there he gave it a look and said that it might come out.
I also made it easy for him because I just by chance don't have the fender liner bolted on to the right rear wheel well. It has a crack in it and I am fixing it as well as putting some sound deadening material in the cavity above it. After some heating of the paint (with a heat gun), some prodding and pushing with his custom bent rods and tools, slight hammering and then some light buffing... the results are perfect. You can't even see any sign of where it was.
Bill was also there (from NorCal 928) with his white 89 S4 and also had a small (should be ashamed of himself) ding taken out.
I understand that this process may not work on all dents / dings, but if it will work on what you have, by all means give it a try. It was the best $65 I have ever spent.

I had paintless dent removers work on my first and my second 928, with amazing results. The first time I had a small parking lot ding in the rear quarter panel removed. The second time it was a dent on my front fender - almost the size of the palm of my hand, but not deep. In both cases the guy came to wherever I had the car, and the result was stunning.
Some of these guys now also do airbrush repairs of scratches in the paint or leather upholstery.
