Ya' know, I live here and I won't drive my 928 on the salt. I did once for some photos, never spun a wheel and only drove about 200' on it. A friend did a 180 with a touch of throttle leaving and that car is still showing salt. It has been in California for a few years now...
I have worked on some salt racers, I would only do that to one I didn't like.

I talked with a guy who used to race on the salt flats and he says what Ketchimi says....the car will never be the same as it's impossible to get all the salt out of a complicated street car. Too many nooks and crannies.

Taken in 2002 (even though I edited/posted the image in 2004).
By the way, that's my S4, Dave's S, and Pete W's S4, we were there for the
inaugural Bonneville 100.

I think you guys worry too much. Kiborts got the world record flying mile car from 1986...I never heard of any rust issues....and they ran the **** out of that thing on the salt!
Anyway, this is a dream of mine as well. I wouldn't take an intended street car as it is not set up for this kind of use. I thought about doing a documentary of taking a street car and running it stock, then progressively making modifications over time. I have already designed the car in my mind. Would love to achieve 250mph just for bragging rights, but that is so much easier said than done. Just the ability to drive at high speed on the salt is a feat in itself. It's like driving on marbles so I've heard.

I trust Wally Plumley's assessment on running the flats. He has experience running there and has posted about it somewhere here. I go to Utah frequently and always wanted to run the flats but have been talked out of it.
