I was out driving around in my S4 at the weekend. There was little traffic around, and I was just burbling along happily in the slow lane at around 60mph. A loud rumbling sound appeared off to my left. It was a Cobra 427. The driver matched my speed and looked over at the S4. His body language suggested that he wanted to race. Yeah, right! Like I'm going to try to compete with a 2400 pound car with 425 bhp! I ignored him, and he vanished in a rather large cloud of unburnt hydrocarbons.

Not that I'd have raced, anyway. At least not in the Porsche. It proves nothing -- any fool can make a powerful car go fast in a straight line -- and two high-performance cars racing on a public highway is a sure recipe for disaster. I much prefer to take my little VW (with its fat little tires) into the canyons and humiliate anyone who rises to the challenge! That's much more fun.

Right, racing is a lot of fun.....under the right circumstances.

What I want to know is, who told these twerps driving Nisson "minimas" that paying a lot for a jap sedan means they bought a sports car? I won't race 'em, but I do enjoy screwing with their minds......

Gretch:

I got rid of a Nissan "Minima" when I got my shark. It's actually quite a nice car. Only those who rice them out or try to race them should be considered "twerps". While I live in Michigan, the buyer made two trips from Cincinnati, Ohio to inspect and then buy it. It may be a "jap" car, but it has my respect.

Wink

I consider myself a true auto enthusiast and enjoy any number of sports cars from whatever manufacturer that builds them.

In most cases any impromptu races I've ever engaged in on the street did not reach ridiculous speeds. Maybe a quick blast from the light to 40 mph or slightly above the speedlimit, a wave and then back to normal. Maybe on a roadtrip where I'm moving out someone decides to run with me, not against me.

We all know street racing is dangerous and everytime someone posts a story, there are no shortage of school teacher types ready to bash the individual or individuals in question. In fact, every motherf***** here has street raced at one time or another. In most cases it is safe to say that when you've engaged in that type of behavior you took a look at the circumstances you were in and decided whether the conditions warranted it or not.

It is the rare occasion when I'm hauling along in my 928S4 that some other Porsche regardless of make or model doesn't start to keep up even if just for a little while. So who are these people? Probably the same people who scold us to save it for the track UNTIL someone minding their own business goes rocketing by them on some semi deserted highway etc.

Usually by the title of the thread you CAN SEE it's going to be a race story and more than likely, it would have been on the street. So if you're adverse to street racing and you know who you are here, THEN DON'T READ IT. Don't even open the thread. Move along, nothing to see here. It's kind of like Madonna back in the day. She pissed all of these people off who would go out of their way to read each and every article printed about her, listen to each and every lyric and look at each and every photo. Then decide they were upset. It makes no sense.

Do what you want to do.

Think about this though, a Honda S2000 that Marcus and Chris took to Willowsprings spanked the Boxsters, and Boxster S's all. Day. Long.

The Boxster S was ~1 second faster per lap during qualifying at the SCCA runoffs.

At the TT/DE level The S2000's usually fight with 2.2liter 914/6's
