My 89 Auto (early production) does not have one-touch down; my 89 5spd does; however, you have to check the switch to be sure it is in center position as it will sometimes stick causing the motor to keep running even when windows are all the way down. I don't think the 84S had them, but I replaced all the center switches with BMW switches, so we'll never know.

That sounds more like you have a sticky switch, you might want to check that out.
