Post oil pump... dragging?

<img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Hi all,
Should the oil pump on my '79 shark turn freely-or with a bit of resistance? I've just done the T-belt/water pump, and upon turning the new belt over I noticed the oil pump was dragging...I now think this may be the reason the belt stripped out to begin with.... any advice would be great.
Thanks!!

Eric

Eric,

I just did the timing belt on my 79 a few weeks ago. I also removed the oil pump to check it out and replace the large "O" ring that is on the rear of the housing and I also replaced the seal that is in the front side of the pump around the shaft. My oil pump spun without much resistance. It was deffinately not binding or anything like that. I did take it all apart and clean it very good in my parts washer. There seemed to be a lot of gunk built up on the back side of it. The rear "O" ring was hard and brittle. Im glad I pulled that thing apart.
