Default SEM products

I must take this opportunity to express how helpful SEM has been while I re-dye my interior. I originally dyed my NOS factory dash that didn't match my newly refinished pod using SEM Color Coat for plastics. That job produced a "shiny" dash that was unacceptably reflective, almost as if it had that garbage Armour All on it. In phone conversations with SEM, they advised me to buy some of their low luster clear for color coat at an automotive paint store in San Jose. I did that, and walked out with a can of clear. I sprayed it and all kinds of crap and white flecks appeared on the surface of my door panels which I was re-dyeing. I went into a panic. SEM said the store should have shaken the can to homogenize the talcum powder in the clear that creates the low luster flat appearance, and I was experiencing that talcum powder on the surface. I returned to the store and they laughed and said they MIGHT consider shaking the can for 5 minutes, which they finally agreed to do. It did no good. It needed at least 30 minutes and then to be strained before shooting. I called SEM. SEM sent one of their reps to have a "conversation" with the store = attitude ajustment. Then their rep called to say he was personally bringing a quart of Low Luster Clear to my office with instructions on how to achieve the desired result. I am impressed.

There are still people around who possess quality customer service values and exercise them. I recommend working with SEM if you are thinking of re-dyeing your interior. My dash and steering wheel have been on for almost three years and still look new after using their products per their advice.

Hey, I should go to work for them eh?? If all turns out well, maybe I can post some photos.

I used SEM products to repair the cracks in my dash pod. They recommended a two part product they sell. After it arrived I realized it was a one piece dual cartridge that needed to be perfectly equal during application. When I called them back to see if there was a specific tool for it they replied there was & it was $65.00. I asked why somebody didn't tell me that when I ordered it. The guy said "If I give you a free tool will you continue to use SEM products?" I said "Hell yea!". The free tool arrived the next day & I use SEM products whenever possible now. That's customer service! A lost art these days.

The competition in the paint industry is pretty fierce. Unfortunately, the suppliers always tend to be the weak link in the chain. I'm not surprised that the rep came and assisted you, that's one of their jobs. The suppliers don't care about you because most of them are little more then order takers, and in your case, you're largely a one time customer. The dual cartridge adhesives and fillers are becoming increasingly popular but I find it highly annoying that everyone makes their cartridges just different from the next guy so that you always have to buy the gun from the maker of the product.
