Talking 40 degrees inside

Well, with the help of Joel Roeder, I recharged my AC with 134A after replacing the dryer, evaporator valves, assorted o-rings. Afterwards, the max cooling was 58 degrees at 2k rpm. Not good. Joel then adjusted the mixing flaps and temp is now 40 degrees at the center vent. My car AC has never been this cool, ever!

Woo hoo!

Question

Hey Joel,

What did you do, and how? Is there an adjustment on the motor in the Driver’s side footwell area? I could always use some more cooling.

Mine hits the high 40s Fahrenheit temperature range now. I replaced the recirculation flap actuator, cleaned the front evaporator coil, condensor, and radiator. I installed the new 75 C radiator temperature sensor. I had already replaced 3 more actuators. I have replenished the fan clutch silicon. R12 level is good. As far as I know everything is working right.

thom, if you have a set of manuals it tells you how to ck and adjust the temp motor mounted on the left side of the box, behind cluster is easiest approach. then remove glove box and set the two blend flaps as per the manual. as far as trying to see the degrees on setting motorits a feel thing the arm on the motor will be at its lowest stroke point, feel between the motor and box and you can touch the degree marks. then set the rod lenth obove to max movement for the flap then set the flaps on the right for max throw. this will give you the best it can give. also found the temp sensor in rear ac to be rather sensitive, im going to ck into that further. the solenoid under the pass. seat was cycling to often. i wants to know why and post that when i find out. we pulled it out of the rear evap an found the rear ac was working better. greg put up a good post on the sensor testing so i will ck it out with that info. if its in spec i will try to use a sensor from different model cars to make it work like it should. i will let you know where that goes. btw, kevin may have jump the gun a bit as yet, it wasnt a real hot day. will also be trying to set the amount of freon for best results with 134. when i hit the right amount i will be able to post the temps at both expansion valves high side inlet for all to use as a guide, although i think the amounts will very from car to car this temp should be a good constant to seek for best results when charging with 134. good luck with the flaps, kev sighed every time i said take this apart so we can check this and that bad we managed a nice improvment for are efforts. joel
