Info on 928S German Wide body please!
Hello guys, I met a guy today selling his 82 Porsche 928S German Wide body conversion and its only got 29k miles on it, but he & I don't know the history of this car. I hear they were very few made, its a 5 spd with cross drilled rotors...Runs great but does anyone have any idea what the history of this car might be? How many were built & so on?
I do have the vin # at:
WP0ZZZ92ZCS840659
Any help is great! Thanks much!

There were at least two companies making wide bodies in Germany at the time. One was Koenig, and then Strosek, who had been the designer at Koenig, started his own business. Do you have any pictures of the car? Was it converted when new, or later in it's life?

Thanks Bryan and Nicole! Yes it was done new and I do have pics available yes. I rode in it and it was very strong running but need a little TLC.
However as I stated, he nor I have much info about the car. Is there any net sights I might go to research this car? Any other help is great! Thanks again!

Hi Doug,
If you have pictures of the car, try and post them to the site here or email them to me privately. I have a Koenig converted 928, if this car was done by them, I could help you a bit.
How about any paperwork for the car, does the owner have a copy of the original German title? If the car was moded over in Germany, it will state what modifications were done on it.
Also, what exactly was done to the car? You stated the bodywork, but what was done to the engine, interior, brakes, suspension??
Unfortunately, there is no web site specifically for 'widebody 928s' that I have found. (at least not yet, I'll probably start one someday) But the Koenig web site is: http://www.koenig-specials.com//
You'll have to do the research yourself. Its too bad the owner doesnt know much about the car, although I would be very leery of this. At least get the name of the person he bought the car from, and try and trace that person down. The VIN # you posted is a Euro spec. car, and someone had to import the car to here. Possibly try and trace the VIN # back through the DMV to get a name or address of the previous owners??
If you are serious about buying the car, at least get someone that knows 928s to go with you to see the car. Not to imply that you dont, but if you've never owned a 928 before, there are several things to watch out for, especially if the car has been modified.
good luck.

Go to http://www.phat928.com to see what a Koenig conversion looks like. Is that what you are talking about?

Here's the car:

Dig the mismatched wheels!
I think this is more likely a cheap body kit, not a real tuner car...

Doug,
Looking at the pictures on your site, it looks like this car has a Strosek body kit on it. Also, I dont think this car is Euro spec (I could be wrong), but all Euro 928's had the front orange side marker lights located behind the front wheels, not in front. (look at the attached link). The 928s made for the US market had these side markers placed forward of the front wheels. It looks like someone stuck a body kit on a US spec. car, and ran out of money (non-matching wheels).
All 928s will have the 'WPOZZZ92Z.....' stamped on the passenger side front fender - located under the hood - on the 'fender lip' right next to the radiator tank/filler cap. But the US spec cars will have the modified VIN 'WPOJBO921....' displayed on other parts of the car, look to see if there are othe VIN tabs, usually on the drivers side front pillar, a placard on the driver side door jamb, under the front hood catch release, behind the license plate on the rear bumper cover.

Hope this helps.

Actually, there is a widebody kit site. Lots to
look at and compare.

Thanks again people! Yes, the rims are obviously mismatched. I just would like to somehow confirm what it really is.
This one does have true dual exhaust, is that rare?
That was a good site, so many beautiful 928's!

The 928s did not come with 'true' dual exhaust
from the factory but they can easily be converted because there is lots of space underneath. Mine was converted with a cross-over placed after the cats then separate pipes to the tips
