Another ubiquitous T-Belt question
I am paying a local non-dealer Porsche shop to replace my timing belt. I know a water pump (not one from NAPA) is a "while you're at it" item. What others things should be done or checked?

Front crankshaft seal (if you pull the harmonic balancer).
The folks at DEVEK made a pretty complete list of mileage/year maintenance stuff.

A lot will depend on how many miles on the car/components. It would be helpful to know the mileage.
For sure do the w-pump. The tensioner should also be rebuilt. Cam, oil pump, crank gears should be inspected for wear. Belt roller (large) on tensioner arm: 928.105.512.12 and roller (small on w-pump): 928.105.571.02; guide rollers at bottom of belt travel: 928.105.067.00 are also candidates for replacement if worn on not spinning freely. Tensioner bolt bushings 999.924.003.40 (2) are sometimes shot or missing. Make sure they use the round-tooth belt to match your round tooth (HTD) gears. It might also be a good time to replace the rubber hose from the oil filler housing to the oil pan since it has to come off and is pretty cheap. I've been replacing accessory belts (ac, air-pump, alt, ps) at the same time. Consider fresh radiator hoses and thermostat.
Be sure to have the belt retensioned after 1500-2000 miles.
Hope it goes well.

Boyce,
Ask to see the shop's belt tensioner gauge and make sure they have the 928 shop manuals. If they can't produce both, take your 928 somewhere else.
