OMG, how do you guys get such high numbers? I'm almost doubting the near 30mpg numbers some of you are posting, and 22mpg on track? You HAVE to be kidding, or you drive like a granny.
We had a long highway drive and got ~21.5.
We have 300 HP, an SDS injection system (uses a MAP and temp sensor), US 4.7S (but with euro cams pistons and heads), auto trans.
Our speed on that drive was between 70 and 80 mph, with ambient temp between 25-30 degrees C.

I just got 26.2mpg on the way home with my 87 5-speed driving the speed limit and about 10% over the speed limit all the way -179 miles. I was forced to get on it two or three times to pass slower cars on the interstate.
I was pleasantly surprised.

If gas mileage was an issue, I would not drive a 928 in the first place.
Even so, typically around 15 l/100km (16 mpg) local driving, but it is possible to make 10.6 l/100km (22mpg) on longer trips. (It is also possible to do less than 12 mpg, typically on the first ride for the season..)
Fairly good for a heavy car with a huuuge engine.
On slower highway ('staubahn') around 140 - 160 km/h (85..100 mph) it goes better than many other cars, at around 14 l/100km (17mpg).
On the real Autobahn ('Schnellbahn') gas mileage is not measured in mpg or l/100km, but in hours before refill, which can easily be less than 2..

It's becoming more of an issue than it was when i bought the car 6 years ago that's for sure. On my way to and from SITM i am going to be very conscious of what my foot is doing.
