Post vacuum question

I have an 82. I am missing a valve in my vacuum system, and do not know if it was done intentionally or not. It is the valve that is at the rear of the engine, under the airbox and behind the throttle body, sort of to the passenger side. I believe it is a part of the A/C system. It screws into the engine and has 2 horns that come off it. One say "carb" on it and goes to the throttle body. Anyone know what this is for, and the advantage/disadvantage of having it disconnected?

iantdopps, it sounds like you might be refering to part of the smog pump equipement. It also could be part of your egr system. I will have to look at my car to see if its setup the same as yours.

Check under your hood and see if you can find the vacuum diagram that was normally installed there.

That would give you a better idea of what the valve did - or at least more info to use when you ask about it.

Sounds like the thermo valve. It's a little brass looking valve with a black plastic top and 2 ports going into it. The whole assembly screws into the engine on the passenger side. Mine was bad and was making my engine run rich. I replaced it for like 30 dollars and everything is OK now. Hope this helps.
