Post Looking for alignment shop

Hello everyone,

first let me thank all of you for the already tremendous help this board as been. I am the new owner of a beautiful 88 S4 auto with 58K and like most of you, I find myself dealing with the PO's mistakes and mishaps.

Namely and to start with: the car as never been properly aligned as clearly testified by the now useless front tires.

I have read all the topics on the subject and I now have a good idea of what is needed.

Does anyone know of a knowledgeable shop in the San Antonio - Houston - Corpus Christi triangle?

Thanks in advance

Paul

Welcome & congrats. I'm north of your triangle and have only had mine aligned in Plano-Max has had some minor tune-up work at the former Don McGill dealership (now Advantage?) on the Katy in Houston.
Max,?
I will look up San Antonio on the HCRPCA list as I recall a good shop mentioned in there.
Cheers,
Donald

Thumbs up

I think Don, caretaker of OREO, is from your neck of the Gulf. He might help! MAx is from down around San Padre and there are a few others... There is also a fair sized bunch of fellow beer guzzling Austin Texans who have shark fever.
If one or the other doesn't get in touch Ill try to hook ya'll up.
Welcome to the experience. Enjoy.

Another 928 in Corpus? WELCOME! That's great! I'll be looking for you while on the streets peddling my snake oil (phamaceutical rep). Haven't had the front end aligned yet, but will check for both of us. There are a couple of 928's in the Valley, too. I do have the full set of manuals if the need should ever arise, don't hesitate to ask. See ya on the streets!

Anthony: The only 928 I ever say on the Island where I live append to be silver. Must have been you looking for the beach

Paul- received three responses off the HCRPCA list, HCRPA are a good group (Austin) and I recommend the Porsche Club:
1)Donald, tell your friend to look up Peter Kendig, the prez at
coastlbendpca.org which is the local chapter in CC. He's a great guy and
they have a very tight nit group down thhere. (they don't do lunch once a
month, the do lunch EVERY day!!!)
2)"Peter Kendig" &lt;carczar@c...&gt;
<a href="http://www.carczar.nu/" target="_blank">http://www.carczar.nu/</a>
3)Tell your friend to post the same message on either
austin-928@w... (he'll have to sign up first
at <a href="http://www.wolfeden.org" target="_blank">www.wolfeden.org</a>

I had forgotten about wolfeden.org- it's a mailing list of central Texas 928s, not really active, but we do have a get together semi-planned for the autumn.
Hope to meet you one day-
Cheers,
Donald

Paul-
two more responses:
Well, If you are going to head into Houston, there are lots of shops...
Another to put a the top of your list is Viking Sjovall, Viking Motorsports,
13003 Murphy Road N1 , Stafford, TX 77477 , 281-498-1001. Great guy, and is
the DE chair for the lone star region, as well as a RUF installer, Sparco
dealer, etc.. and always has a few very cool cars around.

Full disclosure... no financial interest, just a happy customer. Purchased
seats and other stuff from Viking.

If you're willing to go as far as Houston, there is a shop in Stafford
(south Houston) called Thunder Motorsport that could probably help you out,
either doing the alignment or referring you to someone. The phone number
there is 281-879-9313.

Thanks Donald,

I'll give Peter a call. He should be able to point me in the right direction if he can't do it himself.

Houston is out of the question these days as all 3 major access roads are floaded

I'll let you guys know the outcome.

Paul-
Another bit of good advice from HCRPCA:

"Make sure to tell him that they have to
do the alignment with the car sitting on the
ground. There have been WAY TOO many botched
928 alignments from shops who "thought" they
knew what they were doing.

That's why I recommended he check with the
928 owners in his area by joining the
928 Owners Club <a href="http://www.929oc.org" target="_blank">www.929oc.org</a>

I wish him good luck!

In addition, in case you have not found this yet, one of the most extensive sites of DIY info is @ :http://www.nichols.nu/tips.htm which has a couple of write ups on alignment. And, as Wally P always points out, center the steering (at the rack).
