I remember Ed being rear ended, but I don't remember if it was the GT or his previous 928. Wasn't there some engine problem as well that kept the car off the road for some length of time?

Not to cast aspersions on the car - $18k seems like a deal even if the cross brace IS the wrong color.

I wonder if it has the proper size tires on it? Ed was always complaining about tires that were too wide for the rims.

Edit:
Apparently it was his GT that got rear ended. "My wounded GT (thanks to a Fairfax County Police Officer) served as prop for illustrative purposes."

That's what the registry says. Maybe that's why there aren't any interior shots - and why it's only $18k...

Just kidding! I'm sure it's a lovely combination - although burgundy outside / gray inside would be MUCH better.

Ed is still stateside, he was at last years Frenzy mooching free food.

The motor was rebuilt by Charlie at Intersport in DC after a 2/6 rod bearing failure at Summit Point raceway about 4 years ago.

He bought the car from a small dealer in WV for 16k and then put about 8k into it.

I don't know how well Jim (current owner) took care of it but he has/had 4-5 other 928's so YMMV.

Ed Ruiz is/was the founder of the "Frenzy" events, and a relatively tireless advocate of the model within PCA. He championed PCA support of the Frenzy events, when the numbers didn't make a lot of sense for PCA involvement.

He was also a vocal supporter of track events for drivers who want to drive fast, at a time when the lists were overflowing with street-racing brags. It was an unpopular stance to take, especially in a community where all drivers are above avearge and critical judgement ability can't be questioned.

Ed also stood firm on making sure that mods made to the car are actual improvements over what the factory supplied. In the thirty years since the cars were introduced, there have been plenty of other-car improvements that could easily find their way into the 928. Ed had a cautious approach to changes that was often ridiculed here, but it was well thought out. And as much as we beat up on things like contact patch, he was in fact exactly correct in his analysis. Delivery might have used a little smoothing, but the core message was correct. At least he tempered his suggestions with the "YMMV" at the end, acknowledging that he was not dictating but merely stating an opinion.

Ed's GT:
My guess is that a buyer will find a car worn to match miles, but will find that maintainence is not lacking during his years of ownership. I'm addicted to rust-free California cars or I would be talking to Mark about this one. There are only so many GT's, and it's likely that this one is unmolested and reasonably maintained. It's certainly worth a look for anyone thinking about a GT as a longer-term car.
