Jeeze Johnny, that was a leap of faith, posting in the 928 forum.
Nice unmolested car, I hope the sale goes smoothly.
FWIW, I always catch hell at the 928 events.

For once my question about the stick was a serious one.
I have read many good things about 951's and this looks a great car.
I have a passing interest but wanted to know how the gearbox feels.
If it is as bad as the 928 I will pass.
If it is better I may follow through.
Roger

FWIW Rog, I much prefer the 5 spd in my 944 to the GTS. There really is no comparison. For one thing it is not a dogleg. I recently drove the 944 through town with out touching the clutch, in an attempt to show off to my son when he bet me it couldn't be done.. This meant coasting to a stop in nuetral, turning off the car, placing it in first and starting the car in gear with out the clutch at each stop sign and light, then shifting up and down with just rev matching through neutral. I won the bet.
I speed shift the 944 with out a second thought where as with the GTS I'm thinking I'm going to leave a deposit on the street at any moment.
The only complaint I have is the throw is fairly long and I haven't had the opportunity to drive one with a short shift conversion.

As I recall, 944s required a new clutch around 80K to 100K. Didn't see a new clutch as a recent maintenance item. Did drive 944s and 951s and I think their trannies are as smooth as the Getrags in BMWs.
I also heard replacing the clutch in a 944 is much more difficult (and much more expensive) than with a 928.
