Default What's best 928 protection against acid rain etching?

I've tried Carnauba, Rejex, and dozen other waxes and I've not found any that will stand up really well to acid rain, short of keeping your car dry, wiping water off promptly, and waxing/polishing frequently. It doesn't take long for acid rain to etch paint, glass, etc.

I can't keep the cars out of the rain all the time and I don't like wiping them down every day or so during the kind of weather we have in Northwest.

Is this a problem anywhere else? Getting the etching off requires heavy polishing with a fine grit....and can be chancy. I'd rather protect it better before having to polish. I've heard about some kind of new "film" that is good for about 6 months. What's your experience?

that's why you need to wax her every month
after every wash use a detailing wax... it is soft -easy on easy off.
but it will break down within a week.

I have four cars that need waxing...I get tired. Need a larger garage and no rainy season. I'm tossing around the idea of moving to Canyon City, Colorado. Well...actually my wife is pushing me that way. I'm thinking I might go crazy there...trading rain for dust.

You have to POLISH it out....and it's not easy. Expecially in glass. Nasty stuff. My brand new Camry came with etched glass from acid rain en route from factory. Had to be polished out. I had some etch marks on the rear spoiler of my Audi TT. Took forever polishing by hand to get them to go away. I used ScratchX (Meguirs?) and it barely did the job.

Iceman, Opti-Seal sounds like a cross between Rejex and Snake Oil....HOWEVER, I've ordered a bottle and will try it in comparison to the other stuff I've tried. I gotta get something that has more staying power...and still looks great. Thanks for the link.

I think some stuff will help, but nothing will prevent it.
Sometimes a cleaner wax will remove, otherwise clay bar and/or polish.
I like Liquid Glass for the cars I leave outside, but I still have to dry before the rain dries, at least on the flat panels, like hood & roof..always before the sun.
I've found that a car cover, while it doesn't keep the car completely dry, will act like a towel later and keep the spots away.
Of course, the garage is best, but never enough room...

Harvey you should move to Idaho, I hear they never get acid rain over there. Moscow sounds like a nice place, University Town, plus lots of farming, hunting, fishing.

Yea, Shane. Living in "the other Moscow" has its downside. I hear there's a nearby town chock full of maniacs. I should move there because the acid rain here is driving me crazy.

BTW, if you go out on one of the America's Deadliest boats, you can buy a GTS with just one paycheck.

Harvey,
Are you sure its "acid rain"? I thought that was eliminated many years ago. Leastwise, you don't hear enviromentalists crying about it anymore. I think maybe your problem is related to GHG emissions. Apparently we're all doomed from it in a few years, so one can only imagine the havoc it must be playing with car finishes right now. All the trees in Idaho are creating a CO2 vortex and pulling it right over top of your cars! Try parking your cars with at least a 200 yard buffer zone from the nearest living trees, plants and herds of livestock. HTH!

Bush did nothing to clean the coal plants in Ohio, in fact one of the first things they did was let them off the hook. So it is still around. I believe you have to wet sand to repair the damage. If you are looking for someone to do that, be careful, it is easy to go through the coat to a place you don't want to be.

Glenn,

It's obviously part of the Canuck Plot. Even Global Warming is affecting Idaho. The warmer it gets, the more "Idaho Crops" you Canadians are able to start growing (seriously) and the more difficult it is for us to have the nice growing seasons of the past. Next thing, you'll be raising 'taters!! Of course, this is all tied into Acid Rain being piped across the border in retaliation for the "lower part of America" having more 928s than those across the border to the north. Unfortunately, you guys will find that the Japanese and Euro 928s will adapt all too well. Sometimes it sucks to be US.

Aside: When I was in heavily Muslim Africa...and would be asked what country I was from, I never lied, I just answered with a question, "Have you ever heard of Canada?" That probably saved my hide. Most don't know what a Porsche is but they do like the Canadiens. Strange world, eh?

We're a likeable bunch for the most part............something to do with being frozen for +1/3 of the year.

My suggestion would be to move also where there's less industry..........2nd largest country in the world with less people than your friends in CA..........come on up!!!
