Default Help-- Need a DS Mirror for My Black '89

Yesterday, some thoughtful soul decided to pull up on the mirror hard enough to do some damage. Car was parked at a nearby Costco, end space, up against the curb. Mirror was fine when we drove in, but was dangling by the wires when we came out. Looks like the bolt pulled the threads out of the housing thank goodness, so no damage to the door itself.

So, anybody have a spare/used/black driver's side flag mirror left over from an aero upgrade or just surplus? The one that's on there is the memory type, but I can transfer all my innards to a good housing if necessary. I'm in the L.A. area.

TIA for any help!

Thanks Alan--

Let's see if there's an already-black one around. I'd like to avoid the painting step if possible, though. Much as I love painting stuff, this is my daily driver right now and it's pretty cripped with no mirror.

Bob,

I hve a nice black flag mirror from my aero upgrade project.
It is off a early 86S. Only stone chips keep from being mint.

BTW what is the difference in flag mirrors by year? Does this affect what will fit Dr. Bobs car?

I know pre-S4 and S4 have different motors, are there any physical differences? Do the digi-dash 89+ S4's have the outside air temp sensor mounted on the bottom of the mirror like the Aero's do?

Mine is about a 9 out of 10. Some small rock chips.
Rest is perfect and includes everything - from an 86.5.
Let me know Roger@928sRus.com

Temp probe is looking out the bottom on the 89+ mirrors. thanks to the need for a reading on the digi-dash. So the earlier mirrors, unfortunately, won't fit the same way.

Jim at 928 International is searching their supply of mirror housings for a nice one too.

----

Ryan-

I was just musing with Jim about how unfortunate it is that fair-trial-and-shoot-'em justice has been suspended. Probably a good thing for me, in the big picture anyway.

In my dark past, I had a black-and-gold Europa as a daily driver, and did a commute from Huntington Beach to Commerce (east of East LA) every monring, then over to UCLA on the west side for classes three afternoons a week. I would often find the windows covered with fingerprints when it was parked at school, and sometimes with lip prints too. After I saw a few of the babes that were kissing the windows, I was a little less upset about it. Just carry a little Windex and a towel, right?

Vandalsim is the same as stealing, but with nothing to go on there's no use wasting energy getting upset about it. Much more important is the "WYAIT" list of things while the door panel is off. Window felts, guides, etc are at the top of that list right now. Look at all the fubn I get to have!

Well Bob you certianly see the brighter side of things. Thats certianly a good attitude to have.

And boy is taking the door panel off fun! you can re-glue carpeting if you want, its a great time to really wash and prep the leather door panel as well. I need to get to my pass side door to do my window roller project and the door stop for that side. Fun times ahead to be sure!

Ryan--

Of course, the carpeting was reglued not long ago when the panels were off. The vinyl at the top edge of the door panel was separated/unglued, so out came the glue and the clamps, and the lower carpet was carefully removed and tossed into the Whirlpool with some Tide. Brushed the nap carefully back to new while it dried, and it looks real nice again. Bottom line-- done the basics on maintenance in there a couple months ago.

I have been thinking about replacing the driver's door stop though, after you did yours. I tested my pass side and it's great, but the driver's side is half-due for renewal. Might as well do it all now while the panel is off!

On the attitude-- I have to project a great attitude at all times. I may be grumbling a little inside but no need to share that kind of stuff. Most of the grumbling is because I need to have a reliable car available. I'm not too hot on the idea of having to buy/own/maintain a plain-clothes everyday car just because some thoughtless soul needs an ego-fix at my expense. Maybe that will pass, or maybe I'll be at the Lexus dealer on Wednesday morning after I get the door stuff back together. 'Reliable' goes well beyond keeping the 928 in tip-top mechanical condition, it needs to be 'available' too. Sad that I can safely drive a 4x-the-price Lexus without worry about some jerk breaking the mirror, but the cheap-to-buy 928 is a target. Whooda thunked?
