Good Carfax, good price, I'd do a PPI real quick and then make an insulting offer like $9K. If they're admiting there's a problem, they're probably willing to negotiate pretty hard just to move it. Once your PPI comes back, assess the problem, see if you or someone you know can fix it cheap, and then make your lowball offer relative to the maximum price of fixing the problem. But ultimately, it's your call, of course. Best of luck either way!

I don't get what makes this car such a smokin' hot deal. There's a 91 in Vancouver for $10,500 CDN. It's a Japanese import, which comes complete with it's own set of problems (primarily not being able to be brought into the US), but it only has 43K miles on it and the price equates to about $9,500 US.

Yes, there are certainly better deals out there, like this one that had to run twice on Ebay before it finally sold. And better yet, though it shows the winning bidder paying the full BIN of $12,500, he actually only paid $11,000. Now what in the heck happened here? This was a beautiful car, clean Carfax, low miles and a 5 speed. Please folks, don't ever say there aren't ever any good deals out there:

Congratulations Rod!

I really don't know. But the buyer is from just north of here and was at the local 928 gathering last week and said he actually got it for only $11K. My assumption would be that the seller simply couldn't figure out how to end the auction early at the current high bid price, so they just agreed on $11K and then the buyer hit the BIN. That's just my guess, but probably a pretty good one..........................

Some buyers hit buy it now BUT try to make it subject to inspection. They get the sale cancelled then negotiate after they see the car and use negative feedback as a threat....

I do want to stress that the info I heard came from a third party and that I don't even know the new owner, nor have I ever met him. For all I know, the person I heard the story from probably has absolutely NO idea what they're talking about, and Rod did actually pay $12,500. By the way, $12,500 was a GREAT deal! Congrats.......................again, Rod!

Jim, I don't believe that's the case here. The car's been in good hands recently-apparently. Unfortunaly just some misaligned information posted without courtesy to the buyer.

I've missed my icons recently

That end of the world comment wasn't aimed at me was it?

Rod, perhaps you have something to add.

I believe I have PM'd almost everyone who has posted and explained the situation to them. I think to their satisfaction.

I don't/didn't really want this to be a public debate. I don't believe anyone - myself, the seller, or anyone here, has done anything wrong or malicious, but the longer it goes on, the more people are likely to think there is something wrong.

I'm happy, the seller is happy, ebay is probably happy with their money and I just want to enjoy my new baby when it finally arrives.

Could we just let it die here? I would really appreciate it. I don't have any ill feelings toward anyone and certainly don't want to promote any..

If anyone has any specifc questions that I have not addressed, please PM me and I will be open and clear. I feel like I'm in the middle of something that I certainly don't want to be in and I'm sorry this seems to have escalated.

Thanks
Rod

Rod,

Enjoy the car. Its been in recent good hands and "you" have nothing to explain nor worry about regarding your purchase. I wish you the best and hope you'll post pictures of your new shark soon.

Cheers!
