That is a cloud of oil smoke. As far as I know, clutches don't burn blue. GTS's do burn oil when under torque - that is where the oil consumption complaints come from. .

Considering that he mentioned the dogleg shift in the clip, I don't think he started in 2nd.

I like the sc'd cars, however, having Jeremy Clarkson talk about one, could be a not great idea. I take it you don't read or watch TopGear. My reasoning comes from this bit, about an Exige, from an article he wrote last year:

"It isn't how they drive that's changed, either. It's what they drive. Now, for every nondescript Kojak-style saloon, you'll see two Evos or Subarus. And almost every car has been modded in some way. My favourite was an orange Lotus Exige parked at the pumps in the middle of Death Valley.

"Yeah," said the rather serious-looking driver when I approached, "I've given it two degrees more camber on the back, fitted a 25 per cent softer compound on the front, uprated the supercharger..."

"So," I said after I'd had enough, "you've ruined it".

He was genuinely taken aback. I believe there's a sense over there that car makers are pretty incompetent. And that if GM, Chrysler and Ford can't make a car properly, then what chance do those funny little trolls in Europe have? Never mind the l'il yella fellas from under the rising sun.

I tried to explain to our American friend that the Exige was put on sale after much development work and that if a two-degree shift in rear camber would make it handle better, then he could be assured that it'd be sold that way in the first place. "

This is not to say the supercharged cars are not great, just to say that Clarkson may have a quite unexpected opinion of them, if you are unfamiliar with his reviews. Of course, I could be completely wrong. It'd make for great television either way.

Since British English is the "original" English, I would say that is the proper way the "proper" way of pronouncing the word. However the North American dialect is a little different.

Straight from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium
The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) adopted aluminium as the standard international name for the element in 1990, but three years later recognized aluminum as an acceptable variant. Hence their periodic table includes both, but places aluminium first.[20] IUPAC officially prefers the use of aluminium in its internal publications, although several IUPAC publications use the spelling aluminum.
Sounds like they are both right, but I'd say aluminium is more righter.

You're right- that's no 2nd gear launch.

Mr Clarkson is notorious for America-bashing. Check this one out...

There is a big difference between adding a few hundred HP to an engine and screwing up the suspension.

Getting back to the theme of this thread, it is the best example that something is worth (in $) only what someone else is willing to pay for it.

OK, well we in Ameri-cur (as he would say) prefer alumi-numb, and we have more and bigger guns so Ameri-curns must be most righter-est of all, correct?
