Excellence Values (Dec 2006)

Thanks for the scan.
Every year when the Dec issue comes out we laugh about it. Usually the article is the same word for word, inlcuding some silliness about having asked the Rennlist 928 forum for input.
IMO 928s are hard to price.

I'm guessing that this year's prices will be lower for most 928s in the Excellence survey and somewhat higher for the GTSs. If one takes an objective look at the selling prices on Autotrader, eBay, etc. (everywhere but Rennlisters cars) , that's the obvious impression. For sure, the quality of the non-enthusiast cars for sale is all over the board...and usually not good. That said, there were a lot of bargains to be had this past year..even to people on this forum. And some here who should have sold cars, were unable to. Weird market.
However, Anderson has taken enough flack form this forum (and the 968ers) that he may relent and let the prices go higher?

Older cars coming up a bit , which would be obvious. My opinion (if it means anything) newer S4-GTS should be climbing as well. Its been 12 years since the last one rolled off, its not like there are thousands being marketed.

But it is good to show the Insurance company for value of the car. I had sent into the Market Update back in December hoping they would post it just for my Insurance Company and they did. In the current issue it has my car and I will be taken it to the insurance company. All this is just in case some one whacks me and the adjuster tries to low ball me on value of the car.

What is the big difference between a $3,000 1980 and a $15,000 1990 ??? the 1980 is ten years more "collectible" .... So in ten years. What was that old song "Just Hoping ,wishing ,praying .... cars are NOT investments no matter what Barrett-Jackson would have you believe. For every winner there are hundreds of thousands of cars which simply depreciate to NOTHING. You can tell your significant other that it is an investment ,that you will get back all the money when you sell , but just do not start believing it yourself. Buy it ,drive it ,enjoy it,fix it and when you are done park it in a barn for 20 years so someone can "find it" ... Every other hobby be it golfing ,fishing, sky diving COSTS money so does having a 928. Having a 928 must make you smile for one reason or another and that is all it is about.
