Default D90 Wheels with RDK on non-RDK car...best fix?

The following thread is 2 years old and lists some ideas on plugging up the hole in the RDK wheels. For those who have experience with this, has any particular method worked better than another for you?

As I have 8 wheels (4CS and 4D90) with RDK sensors in them and one 928 with no longer functioning RDK and one 928 that never had RDK - where do I get 8 "freeze plugs"

Sorry this doesn't help your immediate question Harvey but the reason for my question is the same as yours - refurbing the wheels

Cheers

Thanks for chiming in Jon. I have the same question.

Notice the curb rash at the bottom of my wheel...doesn't look like and easy fix to me. I'm thinking of welding and grinding back to shape and repainting the wheel.

OK ..."Most of the plugs to be found on an engine are actually to plug the holes where sand cores have been held. The sand cores are used in the casting process to form internal cavities in the engine block or cylinder head, for cooling water for example, and so should really be referred to as core plugs." So the rubber plugs with a metal plate on each side, bolt through the middle are the cheap and dirty way to plug a rusted out core plug which is also incorrectly called a freeze plug because when an engine has no coolant and the water freezes these core plugs often pop out ! Now back to my wheels....they are STILL holding air however the rubber is looking rather nasty!

So you have RDK wheels with just holes with no sensors??

If the sensor is still there - just leave it in - shouldn't do any harm right?

Despite that these sensors are hunderds of dollars new to replace - I can't imagine there is an aftermarket demand for used (all the hassles of fitment etc for a system it seems most have disabled)....

Harvey-

I'll happily send you my chromed D90's that come complete with 8 functional RDK sensors that you can use to plug those nasty holes in your wheels. $400+ at-cost shipping, the shipping boxes are ready to go!

Great price and tempting....but I'm not a chrome fan either. The S4 I bought has chromed wheels and I can't wait to replace them with something more interesting.
