Default arrgghh warning lights stay on!

Hi all, was just preparing my car for it's MOT (UK annual government inspection) and sorting out a couple of issues like non-functioning horn. Got them all sorted and on restarting the car to take to the MOT test none of the warning lights extinguished themselves. This is an instant MOT fail as it indicates a brake problem.

So, all the warning lights are on. Even the overheat light, although the engine is stone cold. Low voltage light is not on, but voltmeter reads low - around 12v-12.5v. Have checked with a meter on the battery, and it is charging fine - 14v ish.

What I've done:
Put in known good battery
Checked all the fuses
Checked all the warning lights are on - ie. no bulb blown behind pod
Checked ignition switch - pulled connector out the back and hotwired 15 and 30 together to bring on ignition and then touched 30 to 50 to get starter circuit to engage. Once car started lights were still on, so assume switch is good.
Finally, the central warning control box. I appear not to have one! In the 2 years I've owned the car, the normal red exclamation light button has never lit, even on starting. Looking under the dead pedal (I assume it's in there even though the car is right hand drive?) there is nothing but between 10 and 20 cables joined together in a non factory way. (well not all together, but in pairs)

So now I'm stuck. What else could be causing this? Did my messing around with the horn cause the problem? Any thoughts gratefully accepted!
Cheers
Matt

And now the horn's stopped working too. Power at the fuse and the relay but none on the brass connector on the indicator / wash wipe stalks. Much as I love the car it infuriates the hell out of me sometimes! Any ideas?

All warning lights staying on even after the engine has started is often due to a faulty ignition switch.

It is relatively cheap and easy to replace.

Re. the horn - my first guess would be a bad connection at the horn. Remove the forward front right wheel splash guard to gain access to the horns.

Pretty sure it's not the switch as I isolated it and hotwired the car and ther lights were still on?
