Reading this thread brings back fond memories of a trip I spent in Northern Italy visiting Padova, Imola, Marranelo the Ferrari factory and the Galleria de Ferrari and Monza. To bad the rental was a Fiat Punto but still a great time. Gilles Villeneuve is reveered in that part of the world; the mural at Imola and his Ferrari race car in the Galleria, great Canadian icon.

On topic, I agree with Matron............if possible remove the whole assembly, be a little lighter and something less to worry about on our aging supercars.

ok.
I have understood. tomorrow I will try to make as you say.
if you want to buy a Maserati Biturbo you must buy an car that is in optimal conditions and observe one religious maintenance. if you spend more when it buys it you spend less later on.
my experience is positive but I cure the car in way a lot deepened, for example i change the oil every 5000 km maximum.
however it always must hold account of the type of motor and of the specific power of these cars as an example a Maserati Ghibli Biturbo has 306cv therefore 153cv/lt therefore the motor of these cars will not be able to never last how much a motor of a common car.
however in Italy it is not rare to see some Maserati Ghibli Biturbo with 180000-200000 km.
unfortunately these cars are perseguitate from the ugly reputation of the first series.
the Maserati with passing of the years has resolved many problems of youth but unfortunately the ugly reputation is remained.
There are however common problems to all the models but if they are known they resolve easy and they are not difficult to repair for example those to the electrical system
On these cars it is important that the motor is in good state the rest of the car is not expensive to repair.
For example mine 928 is making me suffer more than Maserati is an car much most complex for the repairs and also more difficult to repair for example there is little space in order to work in the motor space.
But is a great car is technologically advanced for to have been produced in 1987.
The Maserati instead is a handicraft car that runs fast but it demands courage and experience in the guide.
here some photos of the jobs of restoration on mine 928 but the total restoration must still end I have still other jobs to make for example the clutch. My car have 130000 km.
MASSIMO.
THE TESTAROSSA IS NOT MINE I'M NOT RICH

HI MARTON.
YOU HAVE NO PASSED THE EMISSION TEST BECAUSE WITH THE AIR PUMP AND WITH THE AIR DIVERT TO THE EXHAUST THE VALUE OF THE LAMDA PROBE IS ABOUT 1.2 ALSO IN ITALY I HAVE NO PASSED THE EMISSION TEST AND AFTER I HAVE REMOVED THE VACUM ON THE DIVERTER VALVE THE VALUE OF THE LAMBDA PROBE WAS 1.0
this is the reason for which I am trying to repair mine diverter valve that at the idle it would have to send air only in the filter air and not in the exhaust.

This is correct on the 928.

The (blowoff switching) valve dumps air pump air that normally goes to the cat/euro exhaust port into the air box under heavy/full throttle. AFAIK, this is done so the the exhaust system/head isn't overheated from afterburning.

The bottom port on the valve goes to the cat/heads, and is normally closed. The side port goes to the air box, and is normally open. The valve is supplied manifold vacuum.

The valve is variable according the amount of manifold vacuum:
High - all the air is sent to the exhaust
Medium - air is split between the exhaust and airbox
Low - all the air is sent to the airbox

Backfiring on decel is a problem with carburated engines. The fuel injected 928 controls the fuel supply better.

For example, the vacuum limiter on the CIS (and held over on early L-Jet) is intended to stop fuel from being sucked out of the injectors when the throttle plate is slammed close by burping air past the throttle at high vacuum. (It has a side effect in that it also raises the idle briefly, which stops manual cars from stalling.)

Massimo, beautiful car. Here's a couple shots from our time in Orvieto:

Found this when we finished dinner.

This is Orvieto from afar, perched on the hilltop.
