I have thought about this and I believe I could do better locally. There is a sense by the general public that Porsches are more expensive to buy than they really are... at least as far as the 928 is concerned. Unless your example is concours, very rare, or very desireable, you'd have a hard time convincing anyone here that it's worth a premium. The values that are genrerally accepted here as fair, are lower than I would consider acceptable to part with my car.

I belong to some other enthusiast forums and the 928 board is the only one that seems to consistently keep values realistic (or depressed to my way of thinking). That may not be a bad thing as I also have to say that this board is also the most technically knowledgable and savy by far. Perhaps it's the good sense and first hand knowledge of what it takes to own and maintain these cars that keeps the group so grounded. I can tell you this, the "F" car crowd has a very different take despite thier cars being as rare, and at least as expensive to own and maintain. We have a different mentality here and while it helps most of the time, it does seem to keep values down.

I got approached via PM on this board. I did not actively try to sell it, but I guess technically, I did sell it through this board. Buyer was local to me - have only seen him on a few occasions on this board.

I bought mine based on a link provided on this forum.

The comments you had all posted based on the photos provided helped put my mind (somewhat) at ease.

I love coming here--it makes me feel ignorant, humble and afraid everything possible will break whenever possible.

Slightly OT: there seems to be a contradiction in your statements which a forum like this does support. Although some come here to post how happy they are, etc., the threads overwhelmingly are "repair" or "trouble" oriented. That can make one feel like TBF (both kinds) is imminent.

As active and large as Rennlist seems, it does not come anywhere near saturating the 928 ownership. Jim Bailey posted numbers at one time estimating Rlist reaches (lurkers and all) IIRC at best 25% of 928 ownership. I suspect it is closer to 10%. Neither of my cars were advertised on Rlist, the owners do not frequent Rlist.

I think Rlisters tend to look for deals on deferred maintenance cars and the cars listed here tend to be in better condition, and less likely to be a distressed car, so Rlist may not be the best place to sell but the ad is cheap. If you list on 928oc.org the ad expires in 30 or 60 days. The administrator couldn't remember which. It is not possible to simply extend the listing so I had to relist each time, and displaying a pic is not a simple download; the cost of membership is higher.

I sold my 86 here on the list back in '02, but considering the way some of you guys rip into a 928 shown for sale here on the list, sight unseen, I would have serious reservations about ever doing it again.

I believe you can both find and sell Sharks using Rennlist. If it’s pristine and priced fairly it will sell. A 928 requiring a ton of work or those showing a lot of wear probably will not move here as fast as a nice looking maintained example because the members here know with a bit of effort they can locate a Shark that’s in nice condition saving them the time and money to bring it up to pristine condition.

Of course we nick pick cars to death here, especially when they need expensive upkeep and the price doesn’t reflect its condition. I also don’t believe the theory about we all have what we want so we seriously are not looking. True, presently I don’t have a Shark but I’ll be looking again. I wanted to get a GTS when I had my ’88, so I don’t believe that’s true.

Rennlist web site reaches people globally by the 1000’s so it’s a great place to handle that function.

I also think color combo's have a lot to do with it here also as we all know the choices we have.
