Very impressive, now get on the track and share some video of it. In car and track side.

Lordy, what have I gotten myself into!? Just joined Rennlist after buying a 928, and I find myself in a hotbed of fanatics (well, it WAS just what I was looking for). First it's all the gorgeous engine bay photos, and now it's your $4000 "basket case" (and I paid 3,900 for mine). Guess I'll keep my avatar as is... Seriously- beautiful work, and I really like the design scheme, not to mention your treatment of the rear fenders. Excellent job all around. I hope to turn my BC (basket case) into something different- just a decent streetable 86.5, but you certainly show what CAN be done. Thanks for the pix!!

Awesome dude!
Really close to my 928 dream car!
You truly pack some skills to have pulled this one off...!
Respect.
I am in the process of making another 928 racer myself. I have made two, but they both got sold before completion...!
One S4 manual from 87 and a 90 GT. All I did was gut them completely and put the swedish version of X pipes on. Stubbe rør...!
They sold themselves and they were nothing like yours...!
Love the paint scheme too!
What are you doing with the engine? Its a 5 liter right?
I love the stance it has as it stands atop your driveway!
I love to hear more about the project. Bigger brakes?
Thanks for the inspiration!
Cheers, Michael.

Wow, thanks everyone. I've never really done any of this stuff before, so it was a pretty steep learning curve in many ways. The engine is pretty much stock 5 liter, 993TT brakes, Koni 3012 double adjustables. I'll post up a whole thread in a few weeks when I am 100% done and have taken it out on the track, and I'll post all of the modifications and such. Thanks again.

For the roof, did you use a special spot welder or a regular, arc/mig/tig?

Hi,
Guess what my current wallpaper is...???
Yes its your ferocious beauty!
Could you post more high res pics of it when you have time?
This is Real cyber ****...!
Are those rims Kinesis? And are they still in production?
Good luck with the completion of your project.
I wish I lived nearer to you and had lots of mullah to make you build me one like that!
Cheers, Michael.

Gosh I hate to be a thread killer....
But seriously what happened to this fabulous build?
Is it out there setting fast lap times or just taunting the local cops..?

Hey Michael,

She is sitting here in the shop, awaiting a bunch of work. The engine finally bit the bullet after a few seasons of track duty (blown head gasket and rod bearings that were threatening to seize anytime), so it was time to take it down to the bare bones and rebuild the drivetrain. Opening the oil filter uncovered a ton of bearing particles, so I didn't want to risk blowing the engine on the track and ruining someone's car or weekend by spewing oil and parts all over the track. Over the next few months, I will be digging into the engine transplant, new trans + LSD, etc. and will be posting periodic updates on our blog. I did post a quick update with a few more details a few weeks ago; you can check it out here.

You can click the direct link above for the post about the race car, or for the blog home page, click here: StudioTNS Blog: The Loose Nut. The blog will get more technical with 928 write-ups and the race car build once I am finished building this website! Thanks for the interest... hopefully come next summer, she will be ready to roll again.

Hi Mark!
And thx for the update!
I think you have built the tastiest looking 928 Racer ever!
Respect.
I am inspired and will nick some of your ideas for my own racer if you dont mind...!
I shall keep tabs on your blog and wish you good luck with the new drivetrain. What kinda hp numbers did you have? Blower..?
Cheers and great to hear from you.

Michael -

Thanks! I feel a bit bad that the car has been sitting for a while now... I just have so much going on with the business and other projects that I haven't had time to work on it lately. That will change over the next few months, though, as I shift the business into items that are a little less mechanic-labor intensive (no time to wrench on personal stuff when I am wrenching on parts cars all day!).

The engine is a stock bottom-end LS1 with built heads & a road race camshaft, dyno'ed at 415 rwhp with an LS6 intake. Naturally aspirated with oiling modifications, custom pan (no dry sump, at least at first), Griffin radiator (will be laid down and vented through the hood). Other mods will be a completely new, custom wiring harness; STACK dash; a few other engine mods; additional weight removal; fuel cell; additional roll cage bracing in the engine bay; and several more minor details here-and-there.

Blog will be updated as soon as I get back to working on it! I'll get a better thread going as well once I have some good stuff to show.

Cheers

Welcome to the Dark side Mark...
Well for me it was anyways....
That wasnt a LS1 tho.
Me and a buddy bought an old 83S with a 383 Blower motor and lots of Powah..!
Well in theory at least....
We got Dyno papers saying it had 600 hp at the wheels and 830 nm.
It never felt like that tho.
It was wild and fun, but mostly very frustrating....!
We could never make it run properly.
So now we are looking to supercharge a fresh Porsche 5l instead.
I have heard great things about the LS1 tho.
Good luck with the project and looking forward to see your development.
Cheers Mark!
