Default New Audio system chosen

Finally broke down and took the plunge.

I’ve decided to pull that crappy old Pioneer stereo unit that looks as if it was installed by some high school kid in his first year of auto shop. It looked like hell, the speakers crackle & pop, the cassette player didn’t work, the ***** fall off if I even slightly goose the throttle and I can't pick up crap on the tuner. My only saving grace is my XM SkyFi2 tuner with it’s RF modulator. I also had some cheap under dash equalizer that as far as I could tell dosn't do anything. Well that’s not entirely true – the LEDs blinked.

Anyway fast forward to this afternoon – after a couple of weeks of shopping around I finally found the head unit that I want at the heart of my audio system - the Alpine CDA-9885 with an XM satellite radio package. Kind of a surprise to me really as in the past I’ve almost always leaned towards Kenwood audio systems for my rides. But the more I shopped around the more I kept coming back to the Alpine unit.

Along with the CDA-9885 I’ll be going for four quality speakers (yet to be determined) in the stock locations and an IPod hookup in the glove box & a 3.5mm aux input. But due to spacing limitations I’m pretty sure I’ll be brining the speakers OUT from behind the perforated door & quarter panel covers to expose the speakers. Hoping for a more modern but stock Porsche look like you see in the later cars.

Wish me luck – pics to follow.

I am looking into a new head unit, but concerned about a cd/dvd player, because they mostly specify no more than 30degree angle of install. I make the console face at 35 degrees. Any comments on jumping, mistracking please?
