So, as I am going forward with my "make 2 out of 6" seat parts swap I am wondering if the pieces of the seat where you actually sit on (the perforated inserts on bottom and back) come off the seat and if someone has any experience removing and re-installing them. Looks like I will be able to get a pair of pretty pristine seats that way after they are re-dyed.

Marcus:
the insert of the backrest is separate and a unit in itself. It will be held at it's very top to the frame with usually 2 hog rings. It will be held at the bottom to the frame, hooked to 5 bent metal points that are part of the frame.
The bottom insert is part of the cover and will come off with the bolsters.
The whole bottom unit including the base foam is held to the frame with hog rings that you can cut from the bottom of the seat. You can then separate the cover from the foam by cutting 9 hog rings (3 on each of the 3 steps)
If you don't have a pair of hog ring pliers, make sure you buy some before you take the seat apart. They're cheap at harbor freight. You will be REALLY bummed if you try to reattach everything using regular type pliers. The job is a snap if you have the right stuff.
Fortunately I bought myself some hog ring pliers some time ago to make some bungee cords...LOL...I knew they would come in handy. BTW, boating supply stores sell nice stainless steel hog rings in all kinds of sizes ;-)
