No no, I am leaving the cat in. Just changing things behind the cat. I loved the good old days, when I first started to drive, & cats were bolted in & companies made test pipes!!

I looked at Carl's site and see the cat backsystem for my year using a Magnaflow muffler. This is definately the direction I want to go, only this system shown is a single pipe from the cat to the muffler that mounts at the rear of the car with twin pipes out. I want to keep the 2 pipes from my cat to the muffler & Magnaflow has a 2 in 2 out. So I will need to see how much my shop will want to do the fabrication. The muffler is $159. I am thinking $300-$400? What do you guys think?

My '85S is set up with a custom exhaust from the cat back...with only a couple of small glasspacks inline. Yes, it's too loud for most but there's no sweeter sound than it wrapping up to near redline and making shifts. I idle around town to keep the noise down and for 5 years haven't been stopped for noise. However, my wife prefers any of my other cars because she'd rather listen to the radio. Different strokes for different folks. I love the sound. I think the fine line is getting a throaty exhaust sound without getting offensive popping and crackling when downshifting.

Nevertheless, the Ott-X design is the design I'll want next (for HP and sound). Louie has done a lot of research on this and knows his scat.

I don't know if we're talking the same thing.....Carl may not have the new intermediate system up on his site? This has all been in the last 3-4 weeks that we've been working on it, at least the setup for S4's that I'm working with him on. The protos went back last week for some changes. I thought that was one of the pieces of the system for older cars: true dual all the way back? Do a search here for threads started by Carl, and you'll see what I refer to.

Ed,

Carl will back up the design with dyno tests, right?

My X pipe with an RMB and the little cats is similar. Sounds awesome when you're out playing around. But, if I want to drive somewhere and need to talk on the phone or somethng, a tad loud. Carl's new twin muffler setup will quiet mine down a bit, I'm hoping, as the short GT resonators with no rear muffler are the problem, I believe. I think I've got the loudest 928 in Texas....If I want loud, I'll go drive my 911 with headers, no cats and a Magnaflow double in/double out. Now, that IS loud.

My wife and the dog hear me a couple of blocks away, and he starts barking knowing daddy's home.

At some point.......and I'll probably dyno next time I get the 928 on one. The goal now if to get it to fit! Although the one that went on his '85 went right on. The shop that is doing the fab missed by a bunch on my set.

Actually with my 911 rebuild starting next week, I'll not have a lot of extra time to throw at exhaust changes for the shark.
