'79 Fuel pump and tank questions for race cars
I have a 79 that's becoming a race car. There seem to be two fuel pumps, one internal and one external. I want to get rid of both of them and install a Walbro. What can I do with the opening when I eliminate the internal pump? Is it threaded into the tank and can a threaded fitting go in it's place?
If anyone has thoughts on using the stock tank racing please chime in. I'm not crazy about the outlet coming out of the tank at the bottom rear and fuel lines going from there and up the wheel well on the outside of the car as it makes it's way forward. It's tempting to mount a pump internally and route the lines out the top of the tank and immediatly going forward in the torque tube area.

rerouting the fule lines might be a good idea and plugging the bottom outlet on the tank can also be done once the pumps are removed, i would not rout the fuel lines up the torque tube as it is one of the hottest parts of the car due to the ex pipes running underneath the T/Tube. the fuel lines can be routed under the car along a frame rail or possibly inside the frame rail if you have a good hole saw
