Symptoms of a cracked camshaft hub?
How difficult is it to tell if the camshaft hubs (part #928 105 459 00) are not cracked? I just replaced a cam gear on a low mileage car (gear started showing wear) and am now wondering if a cracked hub might have contributed to this? Also, as I look through the driver's side cam belt cover ventilation hole, I can see the cam gear is not running perfectly true (but close). The belt runs perfect. Cause for concern?

Obviously I didn't do enough homework when I ordered the new cam gear. I wish the vendor had mentioned other possible WYAIT things like the camshaft hub when I bought the gear. Now it sounds like I'll have to tear done the finished job to check this out. I wonder if I can change out the camshaft hub and gear without pulling all the belts and the associated hardware? That takes a lot of time. I think that, with PorKen's 32V'r tool I should be able to keep the cam timing OK.
