Hi,
under the radio (behind the clock) in my ex Japan '90 S4 is a bracket that holds three relay bases. The middle and right have a blue relay (911.617.119.00 IIRC) in them. The left base has lost of wires running to it but no relay.
Can anyone tell me what this relay position is meant to control & is it essential?
The car has an alarm.
Cheers,
Myles Garmonsway

Japan cars have exhaust gas temp sensors downstream of the cats. (In addition to the normal sensors on cyl 3/7 or cyl 4/8 exhaust manifold connections of cat equipped cars)
I'm not sure what the sensors do in the event of temps being to hot but IIRC the relays they are connected to are under the radio.

I think its for one of the optional Alarm units (not strictly just a relay - more of a module).
There are up to 3 alarm modules - the optional one allows for flashing lights Usually fogs) as well as the honking horn.
Not having it does no harm - a regular relay does not work
