I noticed some fluid in the center valley.
Otherwise as others said, you will get some fluid splashing around while they undo & remove stuff.
Why did they take the MAF out? If you want to worry about something then anything they might drop into the intake will get into the motor with no beneficial effects.

I think they took the MAF out to powder coat the intake manifold....they are replacing the idle regulator, and all the hoses. i am asking to keep all the old parts of course. it was idling perfectly, but figured Id change it anyway, as Id like to keep the car for a long time hopefully!

Not to worry. I had the same problem 2 weeks ago and one of thegurus here was correct with the diagnosis (mixture of oil & coolant fluid in the valley). If you had to loosen the 2 allen bolts to reposition the fuel dampers (1 on each side) TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE 2 BACK MANIFOLD BOLTS, the coolant came from this action. On the passenger side, this is where the coolant for the heater core comes from. Change these gaskets also.
