I too was heavily in the market for a 951, when I decided upon the 928 S4- you won't regret it.

Excellent. Possibly start a thread for a PPI assist where it's located. I wouldn't wait too long or there's a guy called 'Willhoit' that may grab up the low mile one's like this. Or, keep shopping, like others have mentioned make sure you get the thrust bearing check done first.

If you know how to drive a manual properly, shifitng fast is nothing more than a good hand and foot coordination. Autos are nice for what they are but to get the true essence of the 928, you need to drive a 5-speed. It's a totally different animal. Saying that shifting an auto manually will get a simmilar effect....... well that's nothing more than imitating a manual trans.
Imre,
Don't forget that as one ages, the "hand- foot" co-ordination tends to deteriorate along with the hearing, eyesight, memory, bladder-control, etc. Having an automatic will compensate for the slower shifting of the 928 "senior citizens" on this list, though I doubt none of those other factors will respond as well.

I know a few drivers who think they are quick shifters so I can see why they might think the manual is slower shifting. Any how auto or manual? I'll take either!
Kevin

Don't forget- Smoother and precise beats "faster " shifting.

Please let's not generalize about age. Much of what you describe can be attributed to factors beyond aging, (but don't get me going on that one). Particularly when kids like myself make it a point to insure their faculties remain as they once were or improve as they gain age, including vision. For instance, if you want to compromise your vision, consume lots of free vegetable oils, (olive oil, safflower oil, soy oil, corn oil, etc.) And don't exercise your eyes regularly, just let 'em atrophy. Yup. That'l make you right for sure. And stay away from the gym or the outdoors. That'l help too.
WRONG! What's this age thing?? WRONG!! I have an automatic because the surgeon who cut open my knee after an auto accident advised me to never again drive a stick shift with a clutch. That is not related to age or reflexes which I go out of my way to test daily. Oh yeah. Drink lots of beer. That'l help too.

Sorry. Ask Sharkskin. I'm just a little sensitive about people who generalize.
Nothing personal intended.

Anyone in or close to Plano, Texas be willing to check this car out for me?

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=207236198

I've contacted the owner and the car seems to be pretty clean from the pics he sent. I'm a bit worried about dry rot though since its only been driven 15k in 8 years.

Ron, You're coming dangerously close to a generalization there.
