Default Weird Interior Fan Problem- HELP!

Hello,

My 84' 928 is driving me crazy. The heat/ AC seems to have a mind of its own.

The initial problem was the temperature control. Seems it was either full hot or full cold regardless of where the temperature control was set. I replaced the heater valve but that didn't help. I farmed the problem out to my local Porsche experts and they replaced the internal temp sensor and that problem was resolved.

As soon as the car came out of the shop the fan started acting funny. Intermittantly the fan will just start running full blast- even with the control set at "0". The position of the air director has no effect- happens even if it's set to the far left. (all doors closed???)

If I zip the fan **** all the way to "4" and then back to "0"- no change. (still runs full speed) If I slowly click it up to "4" and then back it down- the fan speed slows to "3", then "2" ... all the way to full off. After a few minutes it will suddenly go full blast again.

Anyone experienced this? Suggestions?

It's been back to the shop twice since then and they've swapped out the control unit from another car and they symptoms are identical

Thanks in advance!

Lamar

Most likely the blower resistor is the culprit.

Its a pain to get to but not really that impossible to do...

It helps to take the hood off though!

Once the hood-blower is out the resistor is pretty easy to get too....it does sound like classic magic blower syndrome...new resistor will fix it!
