Eclise,
Cruise control system went to electronics in '88. These those years and later seem to be a bit more reliable than the early systems (had both).
Tires from '87 up through '91 OE were 225/50 X 16 F and 245/45 X 16 rear. l7" wheels came in in '92/'93. Don't remember when they went to the wider rears, know some of the earlier cars had 225's F & R as OE.

I got two small kids (2 and 4) and they are as eager as me to take a ride in "the big Porsche", I also have a 924 wich they call "the little Porsche"

As for space, the 928 will be like a space ship compared to your Elise.

My S4 is 17 years old, and can still outrun most modern sportscars, be as comfortable as a Mercedes and even look modern with 18" wheels. And the sound of the X-pipe is beoynd anything.... It's a true GT car that makes you feel like The King Of The Road

But the sharks are getting old so be prepared for some troubleshooting and fixing. But if you like to wrench (I use mine as a hobby) and got a second car as backup, then there is no reason not to buy a shark. This forum will provide all the info you need to keep it running, and part prices are not as high as many belive, its about the same pricelevel as most modern cars.

Btw: During the winter I stored the Porsches in the garage, and used my Fiat barchetta Cab as my "winter car" to work. I guess that tells wich cars I love the most

To your question on cruise - yes all years. Cruise control is on the smaller stalk on the RHS of the steering column, there is no on/off master switch - its always ready. For the later all electric system (at least - not sure on vacuum system controls) the cruise is simple/intuitive/brilliant IMHO. Push the stalk froward to set a speed or hold forward to accellerate, pull back to cancel (and therefore also to coast down). Push up to resume the previous set point (e.g. after touching the brake or slowing below the threshold). On a manual car the cruise also auto-resumes at the same speed after gear changes - nice.

I like the ergonomics of mine very much...

Eclise,
The 928 outweighs the Elise by a LOT.
Might want to investigate in a nice piece of lumber to stick under the loud pedal. Keeps the citations down. A lot less fun tho. . .
Unless you have a significant other you can strap into the passenger seat often.
I hear some are very effective in keeping vehicular speeds to the low warp numbers.

"No ossifer. I wasn't intentionally speeding. It's just that the front wheel shimmy dissappears after 90mph."

Thanks Gary and Alan for the info. I swear I looked all over the instrument guages trying to find cruise control on the 928 I looked at, but I couldn't find it. It was dark, though.

Taffelman, I would love a 928 to tinker with. It would be a car I would still want to keep when it breaks down! What you said about the sound of the pipes is true; I found a video on YouTube with a guy revving his 928 up--sounded beautiful! I have to say, though, the 928 I testdrove didn't sound nearly as ferocious as the car on YouTube. Still sounded good, though. And yes, the Elise is incredibly cramped. I carry most of my personal stuff in a clothes basket, and it won't fit in the trunk of the Elise. More room would be nice!

Ew928, I tell you I am not a speeder, not a street racer, not a wreckless driver...but somehow the cops seem to find me. I have been fortunate *knock on wood* that I've only gotten warnings thus far. I've never been pulled over in any city other than Clarksburg, WV--but I've been pulled over there three times now! The cops there are psychos! Hmmm, that was where I saw the mythical 928 for sale; perhaps the owner was tired of getting tickets, LOL!

Yes, and they are made by Porsche It's mounted with a seatbelt strap from the cargo hooks in the hatch.

The older one only use a "pillow type" childseat.

The original system is very quiet. I have ditched the cats and installed an X-Pipe, but I still use the original rear mufflers. The result is a very "macho" head turning sound, but without getting anoying.

As mentioned the cruise controll is the lower handle on the right side. On my 1990 S4 I also got two handles on the left where the lower one controlls the "drivng computer".

Britax makes a car seat that fits beautifully in the rear seats. I use one for my son and the color even matches my interior! Bit pricey though. Oh and my son loves the P-Car, after going out one day I gassed it in 2nd and he started saying very enthusiastically "Fast Porsche!" over and over. My wife turns to me and says "Did you teach him that" .

Afshin, did your lovely wife slap you in the head before saying "Did you teach him that". Say Hi to your family from me. Your wife was a great sport amidst all the shenanigans of the last Frenzy.

That pull and siren song as the V8 howls from 3,000 to redline can be so very intoxicating and good for getting that red and blue light show in the rear view mirror.
