Engine Clean B4 & After
I was wondering what the general opinions are on my cheap-o clean up.
My main goal here was to replace fuel and vac lines and have the injectors cleaned.
I did what I wanted and now I am not worried about 23 year old fuel lines.
I was tossed about powder coating or polishing but after I put a wire wheel to the spider I kind liked the way it looked.
What do you think.

Beautiful, John! Nice job with the paint, too.
I know a guy who uses WD40 to clean his engine bay; says it keeps everything oiled up and keeps the rubber from cracking. What do you think about WD40?

That looks really nice. I had a 'show us under your hood' thread started a while ago, this should go in there.
I didn't post mine because I'm still embarrassed at the condition in there, but hopefully soon it will look almost as good as yours.
(PS- you're missing an overflow cap)

Much better......I've found that when deciding to tackle a 928 engine bay the best way to do it is in stages....its just such a big job.....start with the easy stuff like dirt on the airbox-tubes-rear blower cover.....then slowly clean an area at a time.....after a couple sessions it will start to really look good.....I've seen polished spiders that look really good....but they are a bit of work to maintain!
Depending on the level of clean you are after......concours being the highest most freakishly clean, to an occasionally cleaned driver....will determine how much time it takes......I really enjoy a clean 928 engine....& love it when people look at it and shake their heads when I tell them 95K miles....

Thanks all for the comments.
It really wasn't that bad.
I had tried to do a full polish on a small spot under the center plenium which I found to extremely labor intensive. It entailed sanding down to a super smooth finish then polish with a wheel, a real task. I also found post's about the maintenance on a full polish which kinda steered me away.
Then I thought about powder coat but the fundsalow dieses kicked in. So I brillowed the tubes and center and then used a wire wheel on the bench grinder and a small wheel on the drill just to clean them and thats what you see. I was ammazed at how well they cleaned up.
I wire wheeled the clamps, replaced the rubber connectors, hand painted the crest, polished and cleared the fuel rails and scrubbed the rest of the top of the engine with simple green and the wire wheel.
I just cleaned everything I could get to. You would not believe the amount of dirt and sand that was in the canyons around the oil fill housing. Vacuum and scraper used there.
Next step is paint the red engine bay to match the car. This will be done with an air brush and paint brush.
The best part is opening the hood and not saying "YUK"
