Got the kit on Friday and I took the rack apart. Not too hard to do but what a mess. I need to buy some parts Cleaner from the local parts store and clean everything up real good before I start putting thing back together. If I can drag this out long enough, Travis might have the video posted. Even if I get the rack back together I still have to buy new Tie Rods.

Take some pics if you get a chance. I know there is a video coming but since your ahead of the video pics would be great.

How do you tell is the rack ONLY needs a reseal?

Thanks,

Angel,

I spent the day today doing this too. I had to do the tie rods and boots, and figured I'd rebuild the PS rack and pump since all the lines are seaping.

I had a bent tie rod:

The rebuild kit I got from Rennbay didn't have two of the O-Rings, and it also didn't have two of the 'wiper seals' I needed. It had them but they were the wrong ID. (apparently this is the same kit they use for the 944 and the rack shaft is a smaller diameter).

Anyway, I ended up putting it back together with the old seals. Luckily I didn't damage them pulling them out and I was able to clean everything out before I got it back together, which is good. I would rather have been able to do the thing right though.

Now I'm reading that the PS pump rebuild kit I've got might not work. That wouldn't be good.

For anyone considering this: It took me about 4 hours to disassemble, clean, rebuild and re-assemble it the first time. It's still not back in the car. If your time is worth more than the amount you would save, then buy the rebuilt and have it ready. This was a PITA and I didn't even get new seals out of it. If it leaks, I'm definitely buying a rebuilt rack the next time.

Mike,
Rennbay sells different kits for the 928 & 944.
I thought I'd take a shot at it whats the worst that can happen, It can leak? Its already doing that. There is no doubt this project is a PITA. If I can save 300 bones then I think it would be cool. If I fail I'll just order one and send this one off as a core. Travis told me that a lot of rebuilders order his kits. If they can do it why can't I.

Tom,
The only digital camera I have is one I bought for my wife as a gift. She threatened to inflict bodily harm on me if I get it dirty. I'll see what I can do. The Rennbay tutorial is pretty good.
