Paging DOUG HILARY - Mobil1 vs. Shell Rotella T?
Hi Doug,
I was wandering around in WalMart just now (oh-dark-thirty) and came across TWO Synthetic 5w40's, both in One Gallon jugs.
$22.23 - Mobil 1 TurboDieselTruck
$16.24 - Shell Rotella T Advanced Soot Control
In the Rating Circle printed on the jugs:
The Mobil said "CI-4, SL/CF" on top and "CI-4 Plus" below.
The Shell said "CI-4/SL" on top and "CI-4 Plus" below.
On the copy on the jugs themselves:
The Shell said "CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4,CG-4, CF-4, CF/SJ, SL."
The Mobil said "Diesel: CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4,CG-4, CF-4, CF" plus "ACEA E5/E4/E3," and "Gas: API SL/SJ."
To me, they seem functionally identical except for price. Am I right to think so? I'd be grateful for any opinion you care to give.
BTW, I'm kicking myself for writing down all of that and not noting the UPC's.

Hi Will,
sorry I could not reply sooner I have been offshore in our Great Barrier Reef Islands
I do not like recommending oils but of the two you mention, Delvac 1 5w-40 is the most advanced formulation and you pay for what you get. I use this in my 928S4
Regards
